1. Hardware
This is the general term used for describing physical parts of computer which can be seen and touched. Example : Mouse, Keyboard
2. Software
This is the term used to describe collection of programs, codes or instructions and its associated documents for performing certain tasks. Example : Microsoft office (Word, excel, power point, access), C, C + +, oracle, adobe PageMaker, etc.
3. Program
Programs are sequence or set of instructions or commands that a computer or other device executes to perform a series of actions or a particular type of work.
4. Command
Command is an instruction to a computer program that, when issued by the user, causes an action to be carried out. Commands are usually either typed at the keyboard or chosen from a menu.
5. RAM
Short form of Random Access Memory. It is a temporary memory that is used for writing user’s data for a very short time as long as the power supply is on. It is a volatile memory.
6. ROM
Short form of read only memory. It is a permanent or non-volatile memory used by the manufacturers or computer.
7. Firmware
It is a program or information written in ROM permanently by the manufacturers during manufacturing of computers.
8. CPU
Short form of central processing unit. It is a type of IC chips. CPU is the computational and control unit of computer. The CPU is the device that interprets and executes instructions. CPU is also called as brain of computer as well as microprocessor.
9. Data
Data is the collection of raw facts or item of information. The data does not give full meaning for example, marks of only two or three subjects received from the concerned teacher does not determine whether the student is passed or failed or stood which division or rank .
10. Information
Information are processed data that gives sensible or full meaning.
